Adams Produce Founder Dies

BIRMINGHAM, AL (Jan. 13) - Adams Produce Company, the largest independently owned produce specialist in the Southeastern United States, announced the passing of one of its iconic figures, Carl Adams Jr., on January 10, 2009, at the age of 91.

Carl returned to Birmingham and the family business after serving in World War II. He became president and treasurer of Adams Produce 1964 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty, and other family members, including those involved in today’s business at Adams Produce, Carl Adams III (son), Carl Adams IV (grandson) and John Gentle (son in-law).
