China-based Uncle Sam’s to establish a U.S. outpost

Uncle Sam’s, a Beijing-born American-style concept, is opening its first U.S. branch in midtown Manhattan on May 18, the fledgling chain announced.

The unit will feature an “Asian-inspired menu of American comfort food,” the Chinese company said. Included is the Uncle Sam’s Signature Burger, topped with oyster sauce, sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese, and the Beijing Chicken Sandwich, which features a hoisin glaze, scallions and sliced cucumber.

Two Uncle Sam’s units are open in Beijing. Concept owner Zhiming Bai said research has shown that the brand will have global appeal because of its flavorings and menu versatility.
