Chipotle’s Q2 comp sales cool to 4.3% gain

Comparable-store sales came down to earth for Chipotle Mexican Grill in the second quarter, rising 4.3 percent year-over-year largely because of menu-price increases, the company acknowledged.

Revenues for the quarter rose 14.1 percent, to $1.2 billion, raising net income by 27 percent, to $140.2 million.

Chipotle noted that store-level margins increased to 28 percent, in part because of the price increases and some easing in the costs of avocados and dairy products.

The chain opened 48 stores during the quarter, raising its chainwide unit tally to 1,878, all company-owned and operated.
