McDonald’s has always been at the top of Technomic’s Top 500 Chain Restaurant Report, and remains far bigger than any other U.S. restaurant chain.

Could that change anytime soon?

In this week’s episode of Restaurant Business’ podcast, “A Deeper Dive,” we spoke with Joe Pawlak, managing principal with RB sister company Technomic, to talk about whether Starbucks or Chick-fil-A could one day topple the Chicago-based giant.

We also spoke about what the future of the Top 500 could look like, including what other industry segments could make real noise in the coming years. The conversation featured talk about chicken concepts, fast-casual pizza, Five Guys and Chipotle.
