FPI: Shipments of Foodservice Packaging Products to Increase

FALLS CHURCH, VA - More than half of foodservice distributors are expecting shipments of foodservice packaging products to increase next year on average of 11.9%, according to the Foodservice & Packaging Institute here.

The FPI's biannual "Market Research Study on Foodservice Packaging Products" revealed that 2% of 200 surveyed broadline and specialty distributorships indicated that they expect their shipments to decrease on average by 10%.

"This means a net increase or growth in expected foodservice packaging shipments next year of 6.4%," the FPI observed.

Furthermore, one in three of the 1,600 foodservice operators polled expects foodservice packaging purchases to increase next year on average 9.3%, while only 1.9% of the operator-respondents said they expect purchases to decrease on average 11.8%.

"This means a net increase or growth in expected foodservice packaging purchases next year of 2.6%," the institute said.
