GFS to Consolidate Two Centers into New Facility

The facilities, one in East Bernstandt, KY, and the other in Martin, TN, will close in April 2006, after the new facility opens in February of that year.

"After a thorough analysis of our distribution network, we have determined that consolidating our distribution centers is the best way to serve our customers in the region as efficiently and effectively as possible," said Rich Wolowski, general manager of the ID Division.

Noting the negative impact of this decision on some of the employees, Wolowski is encouraging them to apply for open positions at the new facility as well as other GFS centers.

"We appreciate the contribution these employees have made to Gordon Food Service and are hopeful that many will take advantage of other opportunities within the company," he said.

He indicated that employees who do not take positions at other GFS sites and commit to staying through the required employment dates would be offered a severance package to assist them in securing employment elsewhere.
