'Happy Meal ban' would nix toys from fatty fast-food offers in NYC

New York City Council member Ben Kallos plans to introduce legislation which would prohibit including toys with certain high-fat foods -- in other words, a ban on Happy Meals and other fast-food combos aimed at children.

In its report, CBS News noted that similar legislation was attempted in 2011, but did not pass. That same year, San Francisco passed its own rules against pairing toys with fast-food, the report said, but McDonald’s (NYSE: MCD) worked around the law by offering the toy for ten additional cents and donating that money to charity, effectively negating its intended effects.
