ID NEWS: GFS to build Kentucky center to expand into greater Louisville area

Gordon Food Service (GFS), Grand Rapids, MI, has signed a purchase agreement to acquire land in Sheperdsville, KY, to build a center that will facilitate expansion of its territory into the greater Louisville area. The new facility will be operated by Gordon Food Service-ID.

The state-of-the-art, 300,000-square-foot distribution center will be fully automated. Construction could begin as early as 2004 with a projected start-up in 2006. It will be the regional broadliner's seventh distribution center in the U.S. and its second in Kentucky.

"We are excited about this location," comments Jim Gordon, GFS executive vice president. "Not only does it position us geographically to better serve our customers in the region, it gives us a home in a community that shares our corporate culture and values."
