ID NEWS: Luzo to sell to Hallsmith-Sysco

Luzo Foodservice Corp., New Bedford, MA, has entered into a purchase and sale agreement with Hallsmith-Sysco Food Services, the Boston-area division of Sysco Corp., Houston. Hallsmith-Sysco is a broadliner powerhouse in its own right, as ID estimates its sales to be in the $700-$750 million range.
A third-generation family broadliner, Luzo rings up $25 million in annual sales. Hallsmith is acquiring all assets except the warehouse and will take on the entire sales force of 13 members, including eight DSRs.
However, the UniPro-member independent will retain its cash-and-carry business and its Internet business, says president Carl Ribeiro. Through the Internet, Luzo is the authorized distributor for Emeril Lagasse as well as for another prominent chef, Ming Tsai.
