ID NEWS: Saval employees assemble 'Operation Shoebox' for troops

Employees of Saval Foods Corp., Elkridge, MD, a $60-million distributor and deli manufacturer, have banded together to assist family members and others serving in Iraq, though an initiative called "Operation Saval Shoebox."

With donations solicited from neighbors, customers, other employees and friends, a group of employees assembled more than 23 packages, including snacks, food products, coffee, seasonings, toiletries and other items.

In addition, employees and customers honored troops with a flag signing. The flag was sent to one of the employee's family members serving in Iraq.

"Due to the number of family members of employees serving in Iraq, we feel personally involved in the war," comments Paul Saval, president. "This was a totally employee-driven activity. I am touched by the generosity and support of our employees and customers."

Personnel involved in the effort include Kristy Kraus, Pam Russ, Bobbi Jo Brown, Claire Petrakow, Tish Holmes and Ira Kelly.
