ID NEWS: Sysco/Northern New England to acquire local nonfoods distributor

Sysco Food Services of Northern New England has signed a purchase agreement to acquire the assets of Reed Distributors, Inc., Lewiston, ME, an $18-million paper and chemicals house. The deal is expected to close May 2, 2003.

"Sysco continually seeks acquisitions to enhance our product offerings to customers, and Reed Distributors fits well within this strategy," comments Richard A. Giles, president of the Westbrook, ME, based division of Sysco Corp. "We pride ourselves in providing 'one-stop shopping' solutions for our customers."

Reed will continue to operate from its existing facility.
