ID NEWS: Wal-Mart to buy BJ's?

A number of published reports say Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Bentonville, Ark., may be planning to acquire BJ's Wholesale Club, Natick, Mass., according to The Packer, a produce industry newspaper.

The Packer cites thedeal.com as saying that one BJ's stockholder heard from "multiple parties" that Wal-Mart was set to bid as much as $1.4 billion to purchase the warehouse club. Wal-Mart already owns a BJ's competitor, Sam's Club.
