ID NEWS: W.S. Lee acquires cash-and-carry specialist

DUNCANSVILLE, PA - W.S. Lee & Sons, Inc., a $90-million broadliner here, has acquired substantially all the assets of Cash and Carry Foodservice, State College, PA, a $2-million specialist. Bill Williams, owner and general manager of Cash and Carry Foodservice, will continue as general manager of W.S. Lee General Stores, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of W.S. Lee.

"We are excited to join forces with Bill Williams and his team to support the current cash-and-carry foodservice customer base, and we look forward to providing added support for W. S. Lee customers in the growing State College market," comments Walter J. Lee III, executive vice president of W.S. Lee.

The UniPro-member house says it will expand lines available at its stores and through direct delivery over the next few months and invest in new delivery equipment and information systems as well. Also, the distributor will expand and remodel stores to better meet customer needs.

Founded in 1872, W. S. Lee, No. 41 in ID's Top 50 last year, claims the distinction of being the oldest privately-owned distributor in the country.
