WASHINGTON, DC (July 14, 2010)—During the International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) Day in Washington event June 22-23, IFDA members held more than 65 congressional meetings on Capitol Hill to discuss the industry’s position on key legislative and regulatory issues including food safety, tax and budget issues, government withholding, cap and trade/energy policy, the Employee Free Choice Act, and more. The appointments included visits with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Also during the event, Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) were honored as recipients of the 2010 IFDA Thomas Jefferson Award for Distinguished Service. Rep. Ryan and Sen. Kyl were presented the foodservice distribution industry’s highest award for their longstanding commitment to free enterprise and support for policies that drive economic prosperity, including their stance against the healthcare bill that was signed into law in March 2010. Rep. Ryan and Sen. Kyl received the award in presentations attended by IFDA member executives.
In addition to the Distinguished Service Awards, 226 Senators and U.S. House Representatives of the 111th Congress are being honored with an IFDA Thomas Jefferson Award for their dedication to restoring our nation’s economic and fiscal health as demonstrated in their voting record. The awards, presented near the conclusion of each Congress, are based on Congressional voting records on issues critical to the growth and prosperity of the foodservice distribution industry and our nation’s overall economy.
