Asian Box, a 10-unit California-based fast-casual chain, has named the former chief operating officer of The Halal Guys as its CEO.

Mike Speck takes over the top spot from Asian Box founder Frank Klein, who will become a brand ambassador for Asian Box. Klein also plans to open a new chicken concept, Roost House, near his home in Palo Alto, Calif., this winter.

Speck oversaw the growth of The Halal Guys from four stores to nearly 100 units in under three years. He was selected to lead Asian Box through “the next phase of its growth,” Klein said in a statement.

Asian Box, which was founded in 2012 and serves “farm-to-box Asian street food,” is seeking to expand outside of California, largely through franchising.
