Maines Paper & Food Service, Inc. Acquires Acme Pre-Pak Corp.

CONKLIN, NY (November 24, 2010)—Maines Paper & Food Service, Inc., is pleased to announce the acquisition of the primary assets of Acme Pre-Pak Corp., which supplies produce, dairy and grocery products to restaurants, grocery stores and institutions throughout New England.

The asset purchase of Worcester, Mass. based Acme Pre-Pak, Inc. expands the broadline base of business for the New York-based Maines, as it continues to grow its footprint in the New England market through the addition of Acme’s foodservice distribution services.  Maines currently has a custom foodservice distribution center in Westborough, Mass. servicing a national and large regional concept with over eighty associates.  Maines plans on maintaining the operations of both distribution centers based on the unique nature of each center’s customer base.

“Acme represents an important addition to our foodservice distribution strategy," said Chris Mellon, Maines Paper & Food Service’s President and CEO. "Over the past 46 years, Acme has achieved significant produce and dairy penetration in this key market. Our objective is to leverage Acme’s strong reputation and that of Andrew Petro and his family, their talented work force and distribution assets to bring Maines and Acme’s combined advantage to customers throughout New England.” Acme customers will reap the benefits of Maines’ full range of high-quality food and food related products, produce, chemical, beverage and consultative services. The company will continue to be known as Acme Pre-Pak, Inc., for the near term.

Paul and Gary Petro, who are owners of Acme (along with their father, mother and brother) have agreed to become the co-presidents of the new operation, “We are excited about the possibilities this acquisition brings to our customers and the ability to provide even more of the affordable, high quality products and services they have come to expect from our operation.”

The new organization will retain all current employees and future operations will continue from Acme’s Worcester’s headquarters.
