Carl’s Jr. opens Manhattan unit with Broadway-style musical

Watch out, Lin-Manuel Miranda. Carl’s Jr. gave its regards to Broadway yesterday, launching its first Manhattan unit with a one-time production of an original off-Broadway musical.

The location’s first 200 customers were treated to a performance of “Written in the Stars,” featuring the burger chain’s mascot, Happy Star. In the show, the smiling celestial body travels from California to (hopefully) make it in the big city as an actor. The chain claims this is the first time a fast-food brand has written, produced and directed a musical.

The two-story restaurant, situated across from Madison Square Garden, serves beer and wine. Carl’s Jr. also opened a unit on Coney Island last month.
