McFlurry of falling sales: McDonald’s reports worst monthly revenue in a decade

Fewer people want fries with that these days.

McDonald’s on Friday reported its worst monthly sales performance in 10 years, with global sales at established stores down 2.5% in July and U.S. sales falling 3.2%.

The world’s largest restaurant chain warned that its global sales forecast for 2014 was uncertain in light of the disappointing figures, which could lead to the first full year of global same-store sales declines since 2002 if the trend continues.

McDonald’s has been struggling in recent months to regain a competitive advantage over rivals such as Wendy’s and Burger King, which have begun offering healthier and cheaper-priced items to customers who are increasingly shying away from processed food.
