Welcome to Restaurant Business’ Week in Review for the week of May 26, 2025. 

McDonald’s is shutting down its beverage-focused CosMc’s concept. Though it plans to test drinks inspired by the short-lived chain in hundreds of its restaurants. 

The National Restaurant Association is hailing President Trump’s massive spending bill as a positive for restaurant operators. The bill includes no tax on tips and no tax on overtime provisions. 

The restaurant point-of-sale system is embarking on a second life. This time, though, its reason for being is hospitality and intelligence, rather than just transaction processing. 

Texas Roadhouse appears to have a juggernaut on its hands with sports bar concept Bubba’s 33. It was the fastest-growing sports bar chain in sales last year, according to Technomic. 

Get ready for another fast-food value war this summer. Chains including Burger King, Wendy’s and McDonald’s are all making moves to boost sluggish traffic.
