Pittston foodservice provider eliminates 10 positions

(Dec. 3., 2009)—North Star Foodservice of Pennsylvania, a division of U.S. Foodservice Inc., will eliminate 10 administrative positions at its Pittston location, according to a company spokesperson.

The layoffs are a result of consolidation of certain accounting, customer service and human resources positions with the U.S. Foodservice facility in Allentown, said Christina Koliopoulos, corporate communications director.

The company is providing benefits to impacted employees under the company's severance program, Koliopoulos said.

The food service distribution center, on Rutledge Drive in Pittston, was formerly known as Bevaco Food Service. It could not be determined Wednesday how many people are employed at the Pittston facility. Local managers did not return phone messages.

U.S. Foodservice Inc., based in Illinois, employs about 26,000 people nationwide, according to its Web site. The company distributes food, equipment and cleaning supplies to restaurants, hotels and other foodservice operations.
