Starbucks debuts custom emojis

In a bid to engage with young, tech-savvy customers, Starbucks has released a keyboard of branded emojis tailored to fans of the coffee giant.

The emojis feature images of the Starbucks logo, several of its signature beverages and even a unicorn sipping on a Frappuccino.

The images, which customers can access for free by downloading an app, can be used in email and across a number of mobile messaging platforms, Starbucks said.

Chains have become increasingly creative with their use of emojis of late. Domino’s last year rolled out emoji ordering capabilities, and Taco Bell ran a well-publicized charge for the creation of a taco emoji, even celebrating the emoji’s October release with its #TacoEmojiEngine campaign.

Digital efforts have been a boon to sales at Starbucks, as mobile orders placed at the chain doubled year over year during its most recent fiscal quarter.
