Steckel Produce Hailed by Business Association

Owner Denny Steckel’s grandfather started the business in 1939. In a local news report on the award (thetelegraph.com), Steckel said his company is currently experiencing some drop in demand from restaurants, which make up about 75 percent of sales, but has also picked up several new customers to balance the losses.
Steckel Produce operates from a 10,000-square-foot multi-temperature warehouse in Jerseyville. “Back when my grandpa stated, we just sold produce,” Steckel said. “Now we carry 80 to 90 percent of the things that restaurants use other than meats. We supply frozen foods, canned goods, paper products and cleaning supplies. Our most popular items are probably lettuce, potatoes and French fry items.”
