Sysco Foods to close Columbus facility in June

OHIO (April 26, 2010)—Sysco Foods of Central Ohio will close by the end of June its Harrison Road operations, where 250 people work.

Employees, who were told Friday, will either be offered new jobs with the company or laid off when the facility closes. Laid-off workers will receive severance pay based on the number of years they were employed by the company, spokesman Mark Palmer said today.

The move comes as the company has decided to consolidate its regional operations in an effort to become more efficient, Palmer said.

All central Ohio food deliveries will continue, but will come from the Cincinnati, Cleveland or Detroit operations, he said.

SYGMA Network and SYGMA Columbus, which are subsidiaries of Sysco, will not be affected by the consolidation, Palmer said.

The Bottom Line: Burger King is spending $550 million to get more of its restaurants remodeled, not counting its own upgraded restaurants. More brands should do this.
