Wendy’s touts decadence with resurrected LTO

Wendy’s has dusted off its Bacon Portabella Melt on Brioche for another brief menu stint, calling it a “shamelessly decadent” alternative for the holiday season.

The sandwich falls squarely at the premium end of Wendy’s barbell pricing strategy, with a price tag of $4.99. Yet the rollout follows a deceleration of sales that management attributed in part to the loss of some bargain hunters during the third quarter. Executives had suggested that the chain would put more of a spotlight on its lower priced selections.

In the meantime, the new burger is getting the promotional push that Wendy’s previously put behind several sandwiches and sides that featured pulled pork.

The Bacon Portabella sandwich consists of a quarter-pound hamburger patty garnished with cheese, thick-cut bacon and sautéed, sliced portobello mushrooms.
