SarVecchio, a domestic Parmesan made by cheesemaker John Griffiths at Sartori Foods in Wisconsin, today was named the top American-made cheese. Oregon’s Tumalo Farms took second place with its Classico Hard Goat’s Milk Cheese, and New York’s McCadam Cheese placed third with its New York Medium Cheddar.

The contest gathered a record 1,336 cheeses and butters entered in 64 product classes, making it the largest collection of American cheeses ever assembled. Entries came from 32 states and ranged from 200-pound giant Swiss wheels and blocks to tiny farmstead creations from cow’s milk, goat’s milk or sheep’s milk.
