Robert Stewart, the longtime CFO and president for the last five years of the East Coast multiconcept group Ark Restaurants, has died. He was 61.

Stewart joined the company, the operator of such high-volume concepts as Bryant Park Grill and Sequoia, in 2002 as CFO, a role he retained after being appointed president in 2013. He was appointed to Ark’s board of directors in 2012.

“Bob had great integrity, strength of character, and had a genuine desire to be a good friend to all around him,” Ark said in a statement announcing Stewart’s death. “He was loved by everyone at his company.”

The cause of his death was not revealed by the company.

Stewart came to the restaurant industry after serving as CFO and EVP of Fortis Capital Holding. Earlier, he held senior financial and audit positions at Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken.

Ark operates about 22 concepts, mostly on the East Coast, from Boston down to Florida.
