Danny Meyer invests in 22-unit Tender Greens

Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group has invested in the Tender Greens fast-casual salad concept with intentions of helping the 22-unit chain grow from its West Coast roots.

Alliance Consumer Group, a private-equity firm, also made an investment in Tender Greens.

The amounts of the investments were not disclosed, but Tender Green described them as “a significant minority investment.”

Meyer is an investor in another fast-casual concept, Sweetgreen.

Additional details were not provided by the parties.

Tender Greens currently operates solely in California, with stores in Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County. It was founded in 2006.

Union Square operates a variety of fine-dining and casual restaurants. It recently spun off its fast-casual burger concept, Shake Shack, in a public offering that valued the upstart at close to $2 billion.
