Planet Smoothie and Tasti D-Lite acquired by Kahala Brands

Planet Smoothie and Tasti D-Lite were acquired by multi-concept franchisor Kahala Brands, expanding the company’s footprint in the frozen smoothie segment.

Tasti D-Lite, a frozen-dairy dessert chain, had acquired Planet Smoothie, a frozen smoothie concept, in 2011. Kahala Brands already operates several smoothie chains, among them Surf City Squeeze and NrGize Lifestyle Cafe.

“This purchase expands our smoothie footprint to more than 400 locations and further enables us to satisfy the ever-growing demand from consumers for healthy food options that fit just about every budget," Michael Serruya, CEO of Kahala, said in a statement.

Kahala will move the acquired chains’ headquarters from Brentwood, Tenn., to the buyer’s home office in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
