Apple Season Is Here

WASHINGTON (September 15, 2011)—Good ol' Granny Smith apples have a lot of company in the farmer's market baskets these days. As heirlooms return to the scene alongside a rising selection of hybrids, the overall number of apples on the market has exploded. As with the recent tomato trend, this opens the doors to greater experimentation in sweet, savory, salad and snack applications for chefs and restaurants.
