The average Chick-fil-A makes even more than you think

The chicken sandwich chain’s non-mall locations topped $7 million average unit sales last year despite the pandemic and an influx of competitors, says RB’s The Bottom Line.

The chicken chain will take “the quality and flavors” of its now-famous chicken sandwich and put them into “poppable” form later this month.

Consumers were all about chicken in 2020, which helped many of the largest chains, according to the Technomic Top 500 Chain Restaurant Report.

The chain, buoyed by its chicken sandwich and digital efforts, expects to finish 2021 with more domestic restaurants than it had the previous year. It would be the first time in 17 years.

The two sandwiches are similar, but RB's The Bottom Line notes that the burger chain is probably late with its version as the market for such items has exploded.

The leading chicken concepts in Technomic’s Top 500 sales ranking all showed positive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The chains are all taking national their own takes on the popular product that has engulfed much of the restaurant industry and drained supplies of chicken.

The tightening of chicken supplies is making it difficult to keep up with demand. Sister chains Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Habit all saw sales grow over 2019 levels.

Wingstop and KFC, among other chains, have struggled to source chickens amid intense demand and worker shortages among distributors and processors.
