ID NEWS: Shamrock joins IMA

Independent Marketing Alliance (IMA), Houston, has announced a new member: Shamrock Foods Co., Phoenix, a regional broadliner ringing up more than $1 billion in sales.

Shamrock joins a "select" membership of three other regional broadliners, notes IMA President Robert Planck: CONCO Foodservice, Metairie, LA; The IJ Co., Knoxville, TN; and Reinhart FoodService, La Crosse, WI. With Shamrock included, member cumulative volume amounts to nearly $4 billion.

Previously, Allen Foods, St. Louis, had also belonged but withdrew upon its acquisition by U.S. Foodservice last year.

Just a week ago, IMA announced that its members had elected to resign from other buying group affiliations, so that it could operate as an independent organization (ID Management Report, 2/13/03).
